Who will win World Cup 2022? Updated odds for country to finish top in Qatar

Title contenders Argentina’s shock early defeat against huge underdogs Saudi Arabia is certain to be among the early results affecting the bookmakers’ odds to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

England and the Netherlands both started with wins to encourage punters who have backed them at relatively short odds, while Brazil were the pre-tournament favourites with holders France considered not far behind.

There are certain to be more surprises to keep gamblers and odds compilers guessing as the action in Qatar continues.

Here’s a full look at the odds you can get on each team to be victorious in the final on December 18.

Every team’s World Cup odds

Argentina’s defeat ended their 36-match unbeaten run in one of the most memorable upsets in World Cup history.

That has seen a slight lengthening of the price for Lionel Scaloni’s side to become champions, and it would be rude not to mention that Saudi Arabia’s odds have plummeted after their sensational opening performance.

Hosts Qatar became the rank outsiders after a dire first group stage match, showing little to suggest they will qualify for the knockout stage in a 2-0 defeat to Ecuador, whose odds have shortened commensurately.

Price changes aren’t always a reaction to results: France are considered less likely to triumph than they were after the draw for the finals was made, which is unsurprising given their long list of injuries including Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema.

The absence of talisman Sadio Mane weakened the hopes of Senegal, who played respectably but were beaten 2-0 by the Netherlands in their first match.

Who will win the World Cup? Favourites in 2022

Brazil are FIFA’s top-ranked team and the bookmakers had the South American heavyweights as early favourites to claim glory.

The Three Lions looked far more impressive than they had in previous months when they hammered an Iran side who were 20th in the world 6-2 to start their campaign, making them second-favourites.

France, Argentina and Spain are also among the most likely, the odds say – but expect the drama to make a mockery of many bets during the weeks to come.

FIFA World Cup winners

Of the 32 teams involved, seven have hoisted the World Cup before.

Unsurprisingly, all seven of those teams appear among the top 10 favourites to win this year’s edition, as soccer tradition runs deep.

Below is a table of previous World Cup winners involved in the 2022 field. The only team to have previously won a World Cup who did not qualify for this year’s field is Italy. The Azzurri have won the World Cup on four previous occasions.
