Qatar 2022 World Cup: What stadium will the final be played in? Capacity, location, etc.


The 2022 World Cup is unique in the sense that the tournament is being held in one location, where the arenas are only an hour’s drive away from each other. This enables fans soccer fans to watch more than one game a day.

Eight stadiums are being used to stage the 64 World Cup games, and Lusail Stadium, the one with the largest capacity, will host the final match on December 18. The stadium is found in Lusail City, approximately 20 kilometers north of Doha. It is barely three months old, as the inaugural Lusail Super Cup game was held on Sept. 9 of this year.

The stadium is hosting games in all rounds of the tournament, and aside from the final, is the venue for nine other matches, the first of which was the November 22 upset of Saudi Arabia over Argentina.

The Qatar Football Association owns Lusail Iconic Stadium, which is the biggest stadium in the country. It can seat almost 89,000 fans, and more than 88,000 people were in attendance during the November 24 win of Brazil over Serbia.

The design of the stadium, including motifs of pots, bowls, and art from the region, aims to represent the Arab world.

After the World Cup, the stadium will be reconfigured into a 40,000-seat venue. The extra seats will be given away to various sports projects, while the excess space will be used to house shops, restaurants, and sports facilities.
